Innovative floating solar power plant powering hydrogen production and dissolved CO₂ extraction

In 2026, HelioRec designed a 60 kWp floating solar power plant for the XSeaO2 project at École Polytechnique in Palaiseau, France.

The spiral-shaped installation combines HelioRec’s W050A floating technology with a floating laboratory, hybrid inverters and battery storage. It will supply renewable electricity for research into hydrogen production and the extraction of CO₂ dissolved in water - key components for developing non-fossil synthetic fuels.

Designed for an active campus environment, the system includes adaptive mooring to accommodate water-level variations and maintain stability while preserving other activities on the lake.

Capacity: 60 kWp

Water-level variation: -1 m to +0.5 m

Application: Inland demonstrator, renewable hydrogen and CO₂ extraction

The project demonstrates the integration of floating solar generation, energy storage and advanced research equipment on a single autonomous floating platform, with the potential for future deployment in marine environments.
