Salins
Floating photovoltaic (FPV) demonstrator in an extreme hypersaline environment
In 2026, HelioRec successfully deployed a 2 kWp floating solar demonstrator in one of Europe's most challenging hypersaline environments to validate the performance of floating solar technology under extreme saline conditions.
The pilot project evaluates the long-term durability of mechanical, electrical, and mooring components exposed to salt-saturated water, salt spray, and accelerated corrosion.
The installation incorporates corrosion-resistant materials, including marine-grade stainless steel fasteners, HDPE floaters, fibre-based mooring components, and protected electrical connections, providing valuable operational data for future commercial-scale floating solar projects in industrial saline and coastal environments.
Capacity: 2 kWp
Environment: Hypersaline salt marsh
Application: Industrial saline environment
Key features: Corrosion-resistant materials, fibre-based mooring system, marine-grade fasteners, protected electrical connections
Objective: Validate long-term performance of floating solar technology in extreme saline conditions before large-scale deployment.
