Brest floating solar power plant

Brest

Nearshore floating photovoltaic (FPV)

In 2023, HelioRec successfully installed a 25 kWp floating solar plant at Brest Port, marking a significant achievement in the challenging marine environment.

Despite these challenges, HelioRec developed a patented floating solar system specifically designed for nearshore environments, where seawater, wind, and waves present unique difficulties.

The installation also includes a weather monitoring station that enhances operational stability. This station is equipped with wave and wind buoys, thermometers for measuring water and air temperatures, a pyranometer to track solar irradiance, and four load cells strategically placed across the plant.

  • Capacity: 25 kWp

  • Maximum wind speed: 200 km/h

  • Maximum wave height: >1.5 m

  • Water level variation: 7 m

  • Application: Tidal nearshore port environment

The project validated the structural stability and mooring behavior under dynamic marine loads. The system includes wave and wind sensors, as well as temperature monitoring capabilities.

The system was decommissioned in 2026.
